Summer Term

Interns, students and scholars over the age of 18 looking for safe, flexible summer housing in New York City and an immersive, intentional, community-oriented experience are encouraged to apply.

Opportunities for professional and personal growth abound; through a variety of programs and activities within the House, Summer Residents are challenged to share and explore the wide diversity of opinion and experiences found across the I-House community.

The daily interactions, along with our summer programming, help build the core values of Respect, Empathy and Moral Courage that characterize the I-House Experience.

Summer Programs

During the summer, I-House programs are planned to build community among the residents. The events are designed to get residents acquainted with each other and with New York City. You never have to explore NYC alone!

Programs for the summer include excursions in and around New York City, cultural events celebrating the diversity of the I-House community, and social events, including barbeques and I-House’s signature event, Ice Cream Socials.

      FAQs

I want to live at I-House during the summer and the following academic year. Should I submit a summer application?

      January 31, 2024

No. If you are anticipating living at I-House during BOTH the summer and the following academic year, please submit an academic year application. In the application, you will be able to fill in your desired arrival date, which can be during the summer term.

I want to live at I-House all summer and next year. I notice the summer ends on August 16 and the academic year begins on September 1. Do I have to move out for those two weeks?

      January 31, 2024

If you are staying all summer and into the following academic year, you do not need to move out between August 16 and September 1. Later in the summer we will fill in the gap and your fall semester charges will begin on August 16.

Can I leave for a short time in the summer without paying for my room while I am gone?

      January 31, 2024

To avoid paying for your room while you are gone you must be gone a minimum of 40 days. During the period you are gone you need to completely remove all of your belongings and make the room available to someone else to stay there while you are gone. You may return to your room upon your return after 40+ days. This is only offered during the summer term, and I-House does not allow residents to leave the House and come back to their same room during the winter months.
