Extension & Renewal

If you are a current resident at I-House and wish to extend your stay beyond your current departure date, please submit an extension or renewal form on the application portal.

Extension: for current residents interested in extending their stay less than 30 days.

Renewal: for current residents interested in renewing their resident membership agreement for a period of 30 days or more.

How to Apply for an Extension or Renewal:

Step 1: Log on to the I-House Portal.

Step 2: Click ‘Renewal Process/Extension Form’ from the drop-down menu bar and select the applicable term.

Step 3: Select your desired process (extension or renewal). Review your information and edit/complete all necessary fields.

Step 4: Submit your application.

A member of the I-House Admissions Team will be in contact with you within five (5) business days from submission. 

Spring Renewal

Residents that are booked for the Fall term only can apply to renew their stay for the Spring term. Beginning around October each year, residents will be able to complete the Renewal application and receive priority for Spring admission.

All eligibility criteria for admission must be met for residents applying to renew their stay.

December graduates & Residents on OPT

Residents that are graduating in December must submit a valid internship or job offer letter to be eligible to continue living at I-House. If a resident is on OPT status beginning in December and does not have an internship or job offer, they should submit for Spring Renewal. If they are admitted, the resident will then be given a two month grace period during which time it is expected that they will be looking for work. Once an internship or job has been secured, the resident must send the Admissions Office their job letter and only then can their booking be extended through the spring.

The deadline to apply for Spring 2024 renewal has passed.

Residents can still submit a request to renew their stay for the Spring 2024 term; however, it is not guaranteed that there will be rooms available.

Summer Extension

Current residents interested in living at International House for all or part of the Summer are welcome to apply for a Summer Extension/Renewal beginning around February each year.

Approval of your extension or renewal is for your current room and an extension of your current Resident Membership Agreement and all policies, including the Early Departure Policy, apply.

All fees for the entire length of the extension or a $1,400 pre-payment for renewals must be paid by the deadline provided in the confirmation email. 

If a current resident would like to stay all summer and all or part of next academic year, they must complete both the Renewal for the Summer and the Readmission application for the Academic Year.

Should I submit an extension or a renewal if I would like to leave after my expected departure date?

If you would like to defer your departure ≤ 30 days, please submit an extension request.

If you would like to renew your membership for a period ≥ 31 days, please submit a renewal request.

Are summer extension and readmission the same?

No, they are not. If you wish to stay for any part of the summer and for the upcoming academic year you must complete both the summer extension process and the readmission application.

I missed the summer extension deadline. Can I still extend?

Residents can request an extension anytime and we will do our best to honor the request.

I want to leave at the end of the Academic Year and come back before the end of the Summer term to stay for the Academic Year. How do I inform you of that?

When completing the readmission application please indicate your return date, despite it being before the beginning of the Academic Year term. We will then set that date as your return date.
