    Registration

Registration confirms that all residents meet all eligibility requirements and ensures a safe stay at International House. All residents must complete registration every fall and spring term to continue to be a resident in good standing.

The registration process is completed on the application portal. Residents must provide the following to complete registration:

    1. Verification of eligibility

    2. Verification of medical insurance coverage

    3. Confirmation of emergency contacts

    4. A current and signed Resident Membership Agreement

    5. Payment of the semester fees in full

    Changing your departure date

International House provides the flexibility for residents to extend their stay beyond their original departure date, or shorten their stay with minimal penalty.

I-House offers residents the ability to apply for a renewal or extension of their resident membership, should they need to continue their stay in New York. To apply for a renewal or extension, residents must continue to meet all eligibility requirements and remain a resident in good standing.

Should a resident need to shorten their stay for any reason, they may do so via the application portal, and the Early Departure Policy applies.

    Spring Renewal

Residents that are booked for the Fall term only can apply to renew their stay for the Spring term beginning around October each year, with the exact dates communicated with residents via email. Current residents will receive priority for Spring admission, but must meet all eligibility requirements and remain a resident in good standing.

Residents that are graduating in December must submit a valid internship or job offer letter to be eligible to continue living at I-House.

    Summer Extension

The Summer Extension process is announced to all residents in February each year at the same time as the Readmission process. Residents can opt to stay at I-House during the summer for as long as they need, whether that be just a few extra days in May, or for the whole summer (mid-May through Mid-August).

Approval of your extension is for your current room and an extension of your current Resident Membership Agreement and all policies, including the Early Departure Policy, apply.

    Early Departure

Residents who need to depart earlier than their initial confirmed departure date can do so with minimal penalty by submitting an early departure request on the portal.

If a resident requests an early departure at least thirty (30) days in advance of their new departure date, there is no penalty. If a resident requests an early departure date less than thirty (30) days in advance, they will be charged for the days through their original departure date or for an additional thirty (30) days from the date of the request, whichever is the lesser amount.

    Readmission

Current residents in good standing may apply for readmission for all or part of the upcoming academic year.

The readmission application opens in February each year. Residents applying for readmission receive priority for admission, and can choose whether they would like to keep their same room or choose a new room on the portal.

Current residents are encouraged to complete the readmission application by the posted deadline, whether they are certain they will be in New York during the upcoming academic year or not. There will always be time to confirm or cancel their booking without penalty later in the spring.

Readmission is not automatic or guaranteed, even in cases where eligibility is established, and is contingent upon approval by the Admissions Committee.

    Room changes

Should a resident wish to change their room during the academic year, they must fill out a room change request form with the Admissions Office. Once the request is turned in, the resident will be placed on the room change waitlist.

When a room of the resident’s denoted preferences becomes available, they will receive an email with a request to set up a time to view the room. If the resident is content with the available room, they will then schedule a room change with a member of the Admissions team, and all applicable charges will begin on the agreed upon date. In the event that the resident’s new room requires a refund of previously collected room fees, this refund will be processed upon completion of the room change.

In the event that the newly available room is not suited for the resident, they will be placed on the bottom of the waitlist, and the cycle will begin again.

Room changes are not permitted during the summer term.
